A. Stand with the band secured under your left foot. Grasp an end of the band in each hand and gather up the excess until the band is taut. Lift your right leg slightly, bringing the inner edge of your right foot against the band.

B. Cross the band in front of you. Exhale as you press your right foot into the band and bring it to the left. Inhale as you return to the starting position. Repeat up to 12 times and then switch legs.
Leg Circles with Band

Back Exercises

  • Strengthens your lower back
  • Improves coordination
  • Doing reciprocal reaches on the ball helps keep your pelvis properly aligned, preventing the lower back from arching. It also will challenge your balance as you lift and reach with your opposite arm and leg.

    A. Lie with your tummy on the ball. Extend your legs and rest the balls of your feet against the floor. Extend both arms and place both palms against the floor, under your chest.

    B. Exhale as you lift and extend your right arm and left leg. Inhale as you lower them. Exhale as you lift and extend your left arm and right leg. Inhale as you lower them. Continue to alternate sides for 12 repetitions on each side.
    Back Stretch

  • Opens your chest
  • Relaxes your abdomen
  • Elongates your spine
  • I like to do this stretch periodically during my abdominal routines to give my tummy a little break.

    A. Sit on the ball with your knees bent and feet on the floor. Walk your feet forward as you slide your torso down the ball until your lower and mid back press into the ball, as shown. Exhale as you raise your arms overhead.

    B. Continue to exhale as you lean back over the ball, allowing the ball to support the arch in your spine. Reach your fingertips toward the floor and fully extend your legs, as shown. Then inhale as you return to the starting position, lying back on the ball with your arms down. Stretch back over the ball two more times

    Lower Belly Workout

    working below the belly button.

    A. Lie on your back with your arms down near your sides, palms facing down. Grasp the ball between your feet with your legs extended at a 90-degree angle to your torso. You'll really feel it in your inner thighs.

    B. Exhale as you curl your lower belly toward your upper belly, lifting the ball up and in. Inhale as you lower. Continue to lift and lower the ball up to 12 times.

    Bent Arm Lateral Raise

Stand holding a pair of dumbbells at your sides, palms facing in. Bend your elbows 90 degrees and your knees slightly.

Raise your elbows in a wide, arcing motion until your arms are nearly parallel to the floor, keeping your elbows just below shoulder level. Pause, then slowly lower.

Tired of that spare tire? Sick of your love handles? You can increase your body’s fat-burning power by eating more foods that strengthen your liver (your body’s main fat-metabolizing organ) to burn fat better. The result? A leaner you! There are many great liver boosting foods, but here are some of my favorites:

Leafy Greens: Spinach, spring mix, mustard greens, and other dark leafy greens are good sources of fibre and powerhouses of nutrition. Research demonstrates that their high concentration of vitamins and antioxidants helps prevent hunger while protecting you from heart disease, cancer, cataracts, and memory loss.

Beans and Legumes: Legumes are the best source of fiber of any foods. They help to stabilize blood sugar while keeping you regular. They are also high in potassium, a critical mineral that reduces dehydration and the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

Garlic and Onions: This dynamic duo of foods contains phytochemicals that break down fatty deposits in the body, while also breaking down cholesterol; killing viruses, bacteria, and fungi; and protecting against heart disease. With a little help from garlic and onions, you can burn fat while warding off illness.

Cayenne: This hot spice lessens the risk of excess insulin in the body by speeding metabolism and lowering blood glucose (sugar) levels, before the excess insulin can result in fat stores. Spice up your next meal with cayenne and lessen those love handles.

Turmeric: The popular spice used primarily in Indian cooking is one of the highest known sources of beta carotene, the antioxidant that helps protect the liver from free radical damage. Turmeric also helps strengthen your liver while helping your body metabolize fats by decreasing the fat storage rate in liver cells. Add a teaspoon of turmeric into your next curry dish to help your body fight fat.

Cinnamon: Researchers at the United States Department of Agriculture showed that a quarter to one teaspoon of cinnamon with food helps metabolize sugar up to twenty times better than food not eaten with cinnamon. Excess sugar in the blood can lead to fat storage. Before you sip that chai tea latte or eat your oatmeal, sprinkle on the cinnamon.

Flax Seeds and Flax Seed Oil: These seeds and oil attract oil-soluble toxins that become lodged in the fatty tissues of the body. Once attracted, they help to escort fat-soluble toxins out. That spells fewer fat stores and a trimmer you.

Human touch is almost as necessary to life as air, water and food. Some people might argue that it is as important. We need to be held by our parents or a caregiver when we are newborns and as children we look for hugs when we fall and scrape our knees. As adults, we still need to be touched–in appropriate and healthy ways, of course.

Perhaps that’s why many hospitals worldwide have started incorporating therapeutic touch, Reiki, and other forms of healing touch into hospice care. As an example, the The Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire has provided well over 8,000 Reiki treatments to patients since 1995. Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a Japanese healing art that involves laying-on of hands to channel universal healing energy through the practitioner to the recipient. The word “Reiki” is Japanese for “universal life energy.”

The highly successful Reiki program, started by Patricia Alandydy, BSN, RN, offers Reiki treatments in every department of the hospital. Now, patients can have Reiki alongside more conventional surgeries, radiation, and other treatments.

And research is documenting the positive healing effects of Reiki and healing touch on diseases like cancer, heart disease, endocrine disorders, immune disorders, orthopedic conditions and injuries, pain, post-operative recovery, and psychological disorders. In one study at St. Clare’s Center for Complementary Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Oncology Complementary Medicine Pilot Porgram, complementary therapies of meditation, healing touch, reflexology, Reiki, massage, and acupuncture were administered to outpatients. Patients who received Reiki or healing touch showed an average reduction in pain by 48 percent.

In a study of 48 patients who had total knee replacement surgery, along with pain and mobility impairment, those who experienced healing touch showed 30.6 percent greater mobility only 2 days after the surgery than those who had only conventional therapy, and 27 percent greater mobility than those people who experienced a placebo-type version of healing touch therapy.

The power of touch to heal is immense. In a world driven primarily by work and responsibilities, touch therapy has the capacity to help us slow down, experience the compassion of another human being, and heal our bodies, minds, and spirits.

    Ready to Try Healing Touch?

Here are some tips to help you get the most from your healing touch session.

    1. Speak to the therapeutic touch, Reiki, or other type of healing touch practitioner before going for a session. Ask for insight into the practitioner’s background, approach, and what the session will entail. You want to be sure that you are comfortable with the person.

    2. Ask what approach the practitioner takes (hands on or off the body, whether he or she incorporates music, chanting or silence) and decide whether you are comfortable with that approach.

    3. Reiki treatments are carried out with the client fully clothed. You may want to ask for a blanket before starting the session, though, because it is common to feel cooler while experiencing these types of therapies.

    4. For some people, healing touch evokes an emotional response. If so, do not suppress it. Most practitioners realize that a person may be moved to tears during a session.

    5. Go slowly when your session is finished. Take some time to integrate the therapy.

    6. Drink plenty of water afterward. Most healing touch practitioners feel that the body needs more water than usual after the session to assist with detoxification and integration.

Hair rinses are meant to soften and nourish your hair and return it to its naturally acidic pH. Organic apple cider vinegar is a good rinse for the hair and scalp; it not only returns them to their naturally acidic pH, it is an alpha hydroxy acid and removes dead skin cells from the scalp and residue from the hair.

Try making your own apple cider infusions by soaking lavender or rose petals in the vinegar for a few months, straining and using the resulting vinegar as a hair rinse! Make the concoction in a glass jar, such as a canning jar, and fill with the plant matter and then cover it all with vinegar screw the lid on tightly and set for at least six weeks. This also makes a nice holiday gift. Good luck!

For obesity, high blood pressure, and/or high cholesterol, drink a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of honey and 5 to 10 drops of apple cider vinegar early in the morning daily. (Ayurvedic texts say honey scrapes fat and cholesterol from the body’s tissues.)

To relieve rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, take 1 teaspoon of honey with 200 mg powdered guggulu daily.

To heal oral ulcers, apply 1 teaspoon honey and a pinch of turmeric to canker sores, mouth ulcers, or sores on the tongue. This mixture will generate saliva and draw out toxins; spit it out to speed the healing process. For internal ulcers, mix a cup of warm milk with a teaspoon of honey twice daily.

To heal a wound, dress it daily with sterilized gauze brushed with honey; dispose at night.

For the common cold, mix 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon with 1 teaspoon honey and eat two or three times a day.

To clear your sinuses, take a mixture of 1 teaspoon each of fresh ginger juice and honey two or three times a day.

For asthma, eat a mixture made of 1/2 teaspoon bay leaf powder, 1/4 teaspoon pippali, and 1 teaspoon of honey two or three times daily.

For nausea, vomiting, and/or indigestion, mix one part lemon juice with one part honey. Dip your index finger into this mixture and lick it slowly twice daily.

For anxiety, drink 1 cup of orange juice with 1 teaspoon of honey and a pinch of nutmeg powder twice daily.

To help reduce the craving for cigarettes, chew small pieces of pineapple with 1/2 teaspoon of honey before smoking.

For abdominal pain, take a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon ground bay leaf, 1/4 teaspoon ajwan (celery seeds), and 1 teaspoon of honey before lunch and dinner daily.

For chronic fever, make a tea of 1 teaspoon of holy basil (tulsi) and 1 cup of hot water. Add 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper powder and 1 teaspoon of honey. Take two or three times a day.

To aid poor circulation, mix 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon trikatu, and 1 teaspoon honey in 1 cup of hot water. Steep for 10 minutes. Take twice a day.

To stop hiccups, mix 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon castor oil in a container. Dip your index finger into the mixture and lick it. Repeat every 10 minutes until your hiccups stop. (Hiccups are due to spasm of the diaphragm, and these ingredients in equal proportion are anti-spasmodic.)

    Did you know?
To make one pound of honey, a swarm of honeybees flies about 24,000 miles and visits 3 to 9 million flowers.

Because its qualities are heating and sweet, honey is good for kapha and vata, and in moderation with pitta.

    Please Note
Raw honey is not recommended for infants under the age of 18 months, the very elderly, or others with compromised immune systems.

    1. What is MSM?

(Methylsulfonylmethane) - is a naturally occurring sulfur compound found within our bodies. It is a safe and natural, assimilable food derived from the ocean. MSM is neither a medicine, drug, chemical, herb, stimulant, synthetic food or additive. It is a member of the sulfur family but should never be confused with sulfa drugs, to which some people are allergic. It is completely safe, odorless, and non-toxic. A 160 pound man has approximately 4 pounds of sulfur as body weight. MSM is a natural organic compound. It occurs naturally in the foods we eat but disappears when we process our food.

    2. Where does MSM come from?

MSM is a naturally occurring, sulfur containing organic compound found primarily in fresh fruits and vegetables and in every cell of the human body. MSM is found in raw vegetables including broccoli, peppers, Brussels sprouts, onions, asparagus and cabbage. The highest natural concentration of MSM is found in mammal's milk. MSM is an organic compound and commercial MSM is a pure, simple molecule that is indistinguishable from a molecule of MSM found in nature. MSM is derived from DMSO. MSM occurs when DMSO is oxidized. MSM is a naturally occurring compound found in significant amounts in nerve tissue, skin, hair and joints.

    3. Why use MSM instead of DMSO?

DMSO causes some side effects such as reddening and itching of the skin, nasal congestion, shortness of breath, excess intestinal gas, and allergic reactions. DMSO has a strong sulfur odor resulting in a garlic smell. None of the side effects are dangerous just unpleasant. MSM is safe and odorless and does not have the side effects as DMSO. However, one property of DMSO when applied externally acts as a powerful carrier for other substances, including toxic ones. These substances are carried into the body through the skin and mucous membranes, where they can do damage. DMSO is sold from commercial outlets mainly for industrial and animal use only and should always be handled with care.

    4. Who discovered MSM?

MSM was discovered by two doctors. Stanley Jacob, MD. of the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and his associate, Robert Herschler, a research chemist for a paper manufacturing company. They both concluded that MSM is the main healing element of DMSO. Their research revealed that MSM, or methylsulfonylmethane, is a natural sulfur compound found in all living things. It is actually one of the most prominent compounds in our bodies, just behind water and sodium. However, in his research, Dr. Jacob determined that the sulfur in MSM, called sulfonyl, is as safe and as important as Vitamin C in our diet, unlike the bad sulfurs, sulfas, sulfites and sulfides.

    5. What happens if my body does not get enough sulfur?

Sulfur is found naturally in the human body. Sulfur is stored in every cell of the body. Your body won't be able to repair or replace damaged tissue fast enough. If this occurs, the body compensates by producing abnormal cells that may lead to illness and disease. You will also experience a sensitivity to pain. Sulfur deficiencies are also associated with gastrointestinal problems, a poor immune system, arthritis, and rheumatism, memory loss and acne. It can also lead to brittle nails and hair, dermatological problems and dry skin.

    6. What are the available forms of MSM?

MSM comes in forms of capsules, crystals, flakes, powder, tablets, lotion and gel. Their is no difference in e
ither form for they are all the same product. Just different forms.

    7. How much MSM should I take and in what form?

You should take whatever form is convenient for you. You should always take the least possible amount of msm that gives you the relief you desire. Drink lots of water with msm. For first time users of MSM, it is better to take with meals to help prevent heartburn. First time users start at a low level and build up. Try 1000 mg or (eighth to a quarter teaspoon) per day. Take it for that way for one week then increase it another a little more. Once you have taken it a long time you will be able to take it without food. The recommended dosage is 2,000 to 6,000 mg. per day, depending on your gastrointestinal tolerance. Please be aware that a single dose of MSM will not help! The recommended dosage for a person weighing 150 lbs. should begin by taking 1/2 teaspoon once in the morning and mid afternoon. MSM needs to be taken for at least 1-2 weeks or even up to two month before you may see results. When MSM is taken by mouth with meals whether it be capsule, crystal, flake, powder or tablet form, the body will distribute MSM where it is needed. The precise dose of MSM is not really that critical. For the first week or two, larger doses of MSM may be needed to compensate for an extreme deficiency and depending on your situation .

    8. Is sulfur the same as sulfa drugs and sulfites?

No. Organic sulfur is a nutrient, a necessary part of natural chemical processes in the body. It should not be confused with sulfa-based drugs or sulfites, which are forms of inorganic sulfur. Sulfa drugs are synthetic, meaning that they do not occur naturally.
Sulfa drugs are sulfites. MSM is a sulfur compound, but is not a sulfite.
They are used for the purposes as antibiotics, which in some people cause allergic reactions. The body produces sulfites in its normal metabolism of sulfur containing amino acids. Sulfite compounds have been used for more than 300 years and are considered safe. If you are sensitive to sulfur based preservatives watch out for these names: sulfur dioxide, sodium sulfite, sodium bisulfite, sodium metabisulfite, potassium bisulfite and potassium metabisulfite.

    9. How does MSM help the skin?

MSM is great for your skin if you have acne. MSM acts to keep the skin's cells and the tissue soft. Keeping the skin soft ensures that it remains elastic enough to allow stretching and movement without damage. Smooth, flexible skin is less prone to wrinkles and dry flakiness. It even helps stretch marks. MSM benefits the skin and internal organs. Try MSM soap on your face. It leaves it smooth and soft and helps with acne.

    10. How does MSM help your hair and nails?

Sulfur helps the body to form keratin, the protein that makes up the main part of the outermost layers of your hair and nails. It is a tough, fibrous protein that is very resilient to the effects of damaging chemicals and other harmful agents. Each strand of hair has its own keratin supply, which is stored in the root. Sulfur is also contained in biotin, a B vitamin that is essential for shiny hair and strong nails. You may be interested to know that the natural inclination of hair to be straight or curly is maintained in part by the sulfur amino acids. MSM benefits dry scalp and hair and improves nail growth and benefits your cuticles and nails. My nails are nice and strong now along with being whiter!

    11. How does MSM help alleviate pain?

When the body's cell walls are supple, fluids can easily pass out of the cell, resulting in equalized pressure inside and outside the cell. It is the difference of pressure that causes pain and inflammation. By equalizing the pressure, MSM helps to reduce pain and inflammation. MSM can relieve post-athletic fatigue along with relieving muscle pain and cramps.

    12. When buying MSM what should I look for?

When buying MSM be sure to look for the U.S. patent numbers licensed by Dr. Robert Herschler: 5, 71, 878;4, 973, 605;4, 863, 748;4, 16, 039, 4, 568, 547;4, 599, 329;4, 514, 421;4, 477, 469;4, 296, 130. This is the only pure MSM on the market. I won't buy MSM from India, China, Japan or Canada. They are known for adding fillers to their msm products. If you do, ask for their certificate of analysis, check the melting point. Or do the test yourself by putting msm in cold tap water (about 1/2 teaspoon in a small juice glass) is enough and watch how the msm dissolves. If anything is floating to the top that is fillers and you do not have the purest form of msm.

    13. Is MSM safe for my pets?

Horse trainers give MSM to their racehorses before races to prevent the buildup of lactic acid in muscles, which causes stiffness and cramps after exercising. Use of MSM to your pets can enhance their overall health. They will acquire attractive glossy coats, and strong toenails.

    15. Is safe to mix MSM with other prescribed medications?
MSM has been observed in clinical settings some indications that it may have a blood-thinning, aspirin like effect on platelet aggregation. Therefore, you should consult your doctor if you are taking high doses of aspirin, or blood-thinning medication such as heparin or dicumarol.

    16. Are capsules just as effective as MSM powder form?

Msm in the capsule form is fine for someone taking low dosages simply as a nutritional supplement on a daily basis. But or someone with health problems such as allergies, arthritis, diabetes, etc. They would have to take large numbers of capsules to get the same effect that they would get by taking 2 to 5 teaspoons of the msm powder. Msm dissolved into water can be consumed over a 12 hour time period, which is the most effective way to take the mineral sulfur and is the most cost effective. It is recommended that you start out by taking 2-3 capsules then build up to 6 capsules a day.

    17. What is the difference between taking MSM flakes, capsules versus MSM powder form versus MSM tablet form?

Studies have shown people receive better results from taking MSM in the powder, crystal or flake form rather in the -capsule or tablet form. Any form you take of MSM (meaning capsule, crystal, flake, powder) will be helpful. Capsules or tablets would be my last choice due to the fact they take the longest to digest because they come compressed which takes longer to dissolve in the stomach. A lot of people prefer to carry capsules to work just because it is more convenient.

    18. What is the dosage breakdown for teaspoons per grams and mg.

Level kitchen teaspoon = 5 grams (5,000 mg.)

    Level tablespoon = 15 grams (15,000 mg.)

Pharmacist's teaspoon holds about 4 grams (4,000 mg.)

    19. Is it safe to take Glucosamine with MSM?

Yes they work well together. Glucosamine plays an integral role in the formation of ligaments, tendons and is more effective than NSAIDs. Glucosamine makes cartilage strong, healthy and resilient. Glucosamine reduces inflammation, and studies show glucosamine to have no known side effects. Glucosamine also contributes to the growth of new cartilage. But keep in mind that glucosamine is a charged sugar molecule and if you are a diabetic you must watch your sugar intake.

    20. Is it safe to take MSM during pregnancy?

My suggestion is that pregnant or nursing women should always consult their physician.

    21.
Do I have to take Vitamin C with MSM supplements?

You do not have to take vitamin C along with MSM dietary supplements in order for MSM to work better. If you are unable to take vitamin C, MSM still works for you. Vitamin C is still a great dietary supplement though and can enhance recovery!

    22. Why is MSM Supplements Center prices higher than those at a health food store?

You are paying for quality MSM. Arthritis MSM Supplement Center only sells pure OPTIMSM. A lot of health food stores and other chains usually contain fillers within their product because of who they buy their product from. To compare quality simply ask the health food store for the certificate of analysis for this product and see for yourself. Look for the logo. MSM We use OptiMSM in all our MSM products.

    23.
Why does MSM work for some people and not for others?

Remember each of us are unique in our way with different genetic makeup, sizes, hormones, energy levels, tolerances, etc. Since we are different our bodies react differently to medications. You may only require one teaspoon of msm whereas another person may need two tablespoons so that you both feel the same effect.

    24. How much MSM should I take once I start my general maintenance?

Taking 2 grams or 2,000 mg. is adequate.

    25. How much should I take during pollen season to relieve my allergies?

Higher dosages are necessary in order to give you relief from sneezing, runny nose and burning eyes.

    26. Can I take MSM if I am allergic to sulfa drugs?

Yes! Sulfa drugs are a totally different product. There are no studies that show anyone being allergic to msm. MSM dietary supplements are necessary for life just like water is and no one is allergic to water.

    27. Why don't doctors recommend MSM?

Very few doctors will because the American Medical Association does not endorse, nor do the Pharmaceutical Companies produce, MSM. This does not mean that there is NO cure for your disease, there certainly may very well be, and it may have existed from the beginning of time itself. This only means that within the politics of the current medical bureaucracy, doctors are instructed to tell you that there in NO cure for your disease.

    28. When buying MSM how can I tell if the product is made with OptiMSM?

Easy! Simply look for the bold OptiMSM logo on the products you buy to show you are getting the original patented, tested, and licensed MSM. The logo may be found on the front or the back of the packaging. MSM Supplements Center only sells products with the OptiMSM trademark.

    29. Are there any food sources of MSM?

Yes there is. MSM occurs naturally in the environment, and is present in rainwater, and is absorbed by plants. Small amounts of MSM are available in fresh fruits, grains, vegetables and even un-pasteurized milk because of the way we process our food. Unfortunately, MSM is chemically altered and destroyed when foods are processed, heated, or dehydrated. So your most reliable dietary source for adequate MSM intake is through supplementation.

    30. Has OptiMSM been scientifically researched?

Yes. Dr. Stanley W. Jacob and his associates have been working with DMSO and MSM for more than 30 years. During their research, they discovered that a portion of the DMSO was converted to MSM in the body. MSM turned out to be a more stable metabolite of DMSO with similar properties. There were an estimated 50,000 articles published on DMSO, but only a handful have ever been repeated with MSM. Physicians and other health care providers have relied primarily on previous DMSO studies, lower animal studies with MSM, as well as MSM case studies and anecdotal reports. Read The MIRACLE OF MSM BOOK.

    31. Who can take MSM?

Everyone because organic sulfur is a basic component for overall human wellness, everyone can benefit from supplementing their diets with MSM. Please consult your physician before using MSM if you are pregnant, while nursing or for children under 2 years of age or have heart problems.

    32. What makes OptiMSM superior to other kinds of MSM?

OptiMSM is the original MSM available in the United States patented as safe for human biological use. If you don't see the OptiMSM logo, you can't be certain you are getting 99.9% pure, safe, and effective OptiMSM. Look for the patented number and ask for certificate of analysis. OptiMSM is manufactured in the United States according to strict manufacturing standards. You can be confident that the product you are taking was made with pure, food-quality MSM. MSM used in other products may contain impurities or contaminants of any kind.

    33. Is MSM and MSG the same thing?

No! MSG is a taste enhancing agent that frequently causes allergic reactions known as the Chinese Restaurant syndrome. MSM and MSG are not related.

    34. Has MSM deficiencies been measured in humans?

Deficiencies of msm have not been measured in people.

    35. Can MSM help athletic performance?

MSM you recover quicker from demanding physical exertion. MSM helps reduce muscle soreness which may enhance your performance.

    36. Why are MSM crystals now called MSM flakes?

The term flake replaces the word crystal, which previously had been used because of MSM's crystalline appearance. The change represents a more accurate description of the manufacturing process and its physical characteristics. When making MSM the manufacturing process involves distillation and flaking, not crystallization and drying. Some people define natural as a substance that occurs naturally in the body and in plants. By that definition, MSM is natural. The raw material used to produce OPTIMSM is of natural origin. So it is true that OPTIMSM is produced from natural sources.

    37. Is OPTIMSM a natural substance?

Some people define natural as a substance that occurs naturally in the body and in plants. By that definition, MSM is natural. The raw material used to produce OPTIMSM is of natural origin. So it is true that OPTIMSM is produced from natural sources.

    38. Is MSM safe for my child to take?

Most children don't need MSM. Those who are afflicted with ailments such as allergies, asthma or inflammation from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at an early age can take MSM. Studies have shown that many children have taken high dosages of msm without any problems.

    39. Is your MSM patented? What are these patents?

The patent issue is currently a hot topic as one manufacturer Cardinal Nutrition (which is our supplier) pays royalties to MSM Investments Company, LLC. which is the current patent holder, and the other Carolwood Corporation does not, claiming that the existing patents have either expired or are invalid. Note that neither manufacturer is the patent holder. Our MSM product is licensed by R.J. Heschler under the following U.S. PATENTS:
    5,071,878;4,973,605;4,863,748;4,616,039;4,568,547;4,599329;4,514,
    421;4,477,469;4,296,130 and all foreign counterparts.

    40. How long does it take vitamins and supplements to take affect?

    90 days

    41. Are you confused on how to take the correct msm dosage?

Get a Whiskey Shot Glass for MSM perfect measuring of dosage?
No more wondering how much water to take with your msm. Just fill the whiskey shot glass full with water along with the desired msm dosage and chug.

    42. Does msm cause a person to have gas? Also if I stop taking msm for four days will I continue to have intestinal problems?

MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane. However, this name is a bit confusing to some people, since there is no methane in the compound. The more proper chemical name for MSM is dimethyl sulfone. Taking any form of MSM is not known to increase methane production in the intestinal tract. However, some people do experience gas after taking MSM, regardless of the brand. This is common with other sulfur-containing compounds and foods as well (e.g., cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower). It is recommend that you divide your daily supplement into smaller doses and taking them with food. Also, consider that the problem is not related to MSM. It seems highly unlikely that MSM could cause intestinal gas four days after the supplement is discontinued. The MSM simply aggravated an existing problem? In any event, certain 'carminative' herbs might be helpful in relieving gas. Recommended favorites are caraway and fennel seeds. Just take a 1/2 teaspoon of each and chew them, but this is not for everybody. You can also brew them in chamomile tea. If intestinal gas occurs just reduce your dosage.

    43. What is the safety of one using MSM as a dietary supplement.

OptiMSM has a long history of safe use, and has not been reported to cause any significant adverse effects or drug interactions.

    44. Will MSM keep me awake at night?

Yes. Once msm starts to works you will experience more energy and if you take msm late at night you may find that you cannot sleep. Try to take your msm only during the morning or early afternoon. If you are a night owl it will benefit you even more.

    45. Will MSM work for me?

Results may vary per person. Do not give up on your msm until you have completed your first full product that you bought. Take it daily for better results.

    46. Does msm go bad when it starts to clump in the container?

No, that is the nature of the product. MSM contains no fillers and may at times clump in the container. Do not be alarmed. Just break it up with you hand or sift it.

    47. Can I take msm and blood thinning agents together?

If msm is taken along with proven blood thinning agents, an accelerated blood thinning effect cannot be ruled out. Indications of such an effect might be the development of bruises on the body or increased bleeding from hemorrhoids. If you are taking blood thinning agents we recommend that you consult your doctor. If your doctor approves start out with a low dosage of msm like one gram a day then increase the dosage. These practical tips can help you make healthier choices. The two keys to a healthy diet are eating the right amount of food for how active you are and eating a range of foods to make sure you're getting a balanced diet.

A healthy balanced diet contains a variety of types of food, including lots of fruit, vegetables and starchy foods such as wholemeal bread and wholegrain cereals; some protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and lentils; and some milk and dairy foods.

Base your meals on starchy foods

Starchy foods such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes are a really important part of a healthy diet. Try to choose wholegrain varieties of starchy foods whenever you can.

Starchy foods should make up about a third of the food we eat. They are a good source of energy and the main source of a range of nutrients in our diet. As well as starch, these foods contain fibre, calcium, iron and B vitamins.

Most of us should eat more starchy foods - try to include at least one starchy food with each of your main meals. So you could start the day with a wholegrain breakfast cereal, have a sandwich for lunch, and potatoes, pasta or rice with your evening meal.

Some people think starchy foods are fattening, but gram for gram they contain less than half the calories of fat. You just need to watch the fats you add when cooking and serving these foods, because this is what increases the calorie content.

    Why choose wholegrain foods?

Wholegrain foods contain more fibre and other nutrients than white or refined starchy foods.

We also digest wholegrain foods more slowly so they can help make us feel full for longer.

    Wholegrain foods include:

    • Wholemeal and wholegrain bread, pitta and chapatti
    • Wholewheat pasta and brown rice
    • Wholegrain breakfast cereals

    Eat more fish

Fish being eaten with knife and fork

Most of us should be eating more fish - including a portion of oily fish each week. It's an excellent source of protein and contains many vitamins and minerals.

Aim for at least two portions of fish a week, including a portion of oily fish. You can choose from fresh, frozen or canned - but remember that canned and smoked fish can be high in salt.

    What are oily fish?

Some fish are called oily fish because they are rich in certain types of fats, called omega 3 fatty acids, which can help keep our hearts healthy.

    How much oily fish?

Although most of us should be eating more oily fish, women who might have a baby one day should have a maximum of 2 portions of oily fish a week (a portion is about 140g). And 4 is the recommended maximum number of portions for other adults.

    Examples of oily fish
Salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, fresh tuna, sardines, pilchards, eel

Examples of white or non-oily fish
Cod, haddock, plaice, coley, tinned tuna, skate, hake

    Shark, swordfish and marlin
Don't have more than one portion a week of these types of fish. This is because of the high levels of mercury in these fish.

Anyone who regularly eats a lot of fish should try and choose as wide a variety as possible.

Cut down on saturated fat and sugar

    Fats

    Bread being spread

To stay healthy we need some fat in our diets. What is important is the kind of fat we are eating. There are two main types of fat:

    • saturated fat - having too much can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases the chance of developing heart disease
    • unsaturated fat - having unsaturated fat instead of saturated fat lowers blood cholesterol
Try to cut down on food that is high in saturated fat and have foods that are rich in unsaturated fat instead, such as vegetable oils (including sunflower, rapeseed and olive oil), oily fish, avocados, nuts and seeds.

    Foods high in saturated fat

Try to eat these sorts of foods less often or in small amounts:

    • meat pies, sausages, meat with visible white fat

    • hard cheese

    • butter and lard

    • pastry

    • cakes and biscuits

    • cream, soured cream and crème fraîche

    • coconut oil, coconut cream or palm oil
For a healthy choice, use just a small amount of vegetable oil or a reduced-fat spread instead of butter, lard or ghee. And when you are having meat, try to choose lean cuts and cut off any visible fat.

How do I know if a food is high in fat?

Look at the label to see how much fat a food contains. Generally the label will say how many grams (g) of fat there are in 100g of the food.

Some foods also give a figure for saturated fat, or 'saturates'.

Use the following as a guide to work out if a food is high or low in fat.

Total fat - what's high and what's low?

High is more than 20g fat per 100g
Low is 3g fat or less per 100g

If the amount of fat per 100g is in between these figures, then that is a medium level of fat.

Saturated fat - what's high and what's low?

High is more than 5g saturates per 100g
Low is 1.5g saturates or less per 100g

If the amount of saturates per 100g is in between these figures, then that is a medium level of saturated fat.

Remember that the amount you eat of a particular food affects how much fat you will get from it.

Try to choose more foods that are low in fat and cut down on foods that are high in fat.

Lose Double Chin - Double Chin exercises and surgery

Double chin is, in fact, a problem basically connected with the obesity syndrome. Due to excessive fat at the bottom of the face the chin develops a dividing line, giving the impression of the person having a double-chin. It gives a bad look, particularly to the unmarried girls, it is a major problem. At times this is due to extra heavy facial limit. In that case, the problem could be cured by having deft use of make-up aids. In general, the best way to avoid double chin is to have regular massage.

How to get rid of double a chin?

Although as we get older our skin and muscles tend to become more lax, this doesn't mean that a double, sometimes triple, chin is inevitable.

    Cause of double chin

Lack of exercise: The way we hold our head contributes to the muscles becoming flabby and withered. Without exercise, fat deposits find a home here and as a result, we have the double chin.

The first step is to ensure your diet is high in fibre and low in fat and calories, containing plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. This will help prevent you laying down vast amounts of fat.

Using a skin toner everyday helps the skin remain firm, as does slapping under the chin with the back of your hand. When slapping, start gently and build up speed gradually. Do this for a couple of minutes each time, two or three times a day.

Stand up straight, don't slouch in chairs, jut your jaw slightly both when speaking and at rest, and (if you have flat feet) make a conscious effort to walk on the outside edges of your soles. At the same time, exercise the neck and jaw muscles by standing up straight, pointing your chin at the ceiling, and stretching, rotating your head slowly as you do.

Eliminate Double chin and make up

Here is how to hide your double chin with the help of makeup.

After doing your complete makeup, use a darker tone like a brown blusher and apply it under the chin area. This will give the depth effect to your double chin, thus giving it a more regular effect.

Don't use a darker foundation as this is too heavy. Powder is best. Foundation can also look dirty and the last thing you want people to see or think they see, is a dirty neck.

You don't want your hair to stop exactly where the double chins begin. Choose a shorter style that brings the eye to the center of the face. This will also emphasize those cheekbones.

    Exercises for double chin

Apart from massage following exercises are found to be quite effective in removing this double-chin problem.

Exercise No.1: First of all, be seated on a chair with a table in front. Put your right elbow on the table with your folded hand pressing your chin side-ways from below. Now try to open your mouth while, at the same time, put pressure from your hand to prevent the mouth from opening. This two-pronged pressure 'attack'- launched at least 4 to 5 times in a day-goes a long way to remove the double chin problem.

Exercise No.2: Bring your two feet together and stand erect as a ramrod. Now gradually tilt your head backwards. When having reached the point, you can tilt your neck back as for away as possible, then freeze your movement. This way, by putting pressure on the chin with reverse movement, you can make your chin free from the folds of flesh.
